Drone Photography Tips for Stunning Landscape Shots

Why Drones Are Perfect for Landscape Photography
CHECK OUT Mark McGee Photos Channel for more tips:
Drones allow photographers to capture sweeping views of mountains, coastlines, forests, and rivers from perspectives that would otherwise require aircraft.
If you don’t have experience with photography as a whole, which is my case, studying other peoples photography and videos helps build your perception
to where you will see more nuance in small details which will make a great difference to your end result. Through a view steps below, you will train your eye and mind.
1. View other peoples channels who have done landscape videos
2. Compare the difference in style and quality between different videographers
3. Note the difference in lighting, time of day, movement and elevation
With these few things you can train your eye and mind to start seeing so you can train yourself to control the drone in your own way.
Use Golden Hour Lighting
The best landscape images often occur during sunrise or sunset, when warm light enhances colors and shadows.
Look for Natural Patterns
From the air you can reveal patterns like:
-
winding rivers
-
forest textures
-
roads and pathways
-
mountain ridges
Whether still photography with a camera or still photos or videos through the a drone camera, there is training of the eye to see the perfect shot while learning to skillfully fly the drone.
Experiment With Altitude
Different heights change the visual impact of a scene:
-
low altitude = detail
-
high altitude = dramatic landscapes
In my experience there is a tendency to want to fly higher than needed before I could get my eye really adapted to viewing landscape. Practicing lower and slower gave me the control to envision and work more dramatic landscapes shots as I gained control.
